Electronics Engineering is the best paying engineering job

"Electrical engineering is hard" has been taken to heart as a postulate by most people. It is definitely not hard or complicated. Yes, it is challenging, but everything will be a challenge until to go to it. A child feels even sitting is challenging, alphabets were challenging in pre-school, algebra was challenging in middle school and Calculus was challenging in High School, but we do work our way through these and learn them over time. Electrical Engineering is not hard to learn, it is not time-consuming. You don't work out pages and pages of math, but you need to work your way through it, you need to think, analyze and ponder over it. It needs a different kind of thinking than most other fields. It only needs you to be open-minded to grasp it. It is not hard, and it will become easier with time.
I did my Bachelors's, Masters's, and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering. Electronics Engineering is the best paying engineering job. Basically, my entire career is in this field. Since the question is about Electrical engineering, I will state a few things which make it different from most other streams of Engineering.

1. You will need to imagine things which you can't see. For instance "electric fields". You can't grasp this concept by looking at a couple of pics or memorizing things, you need to think openly.
2. Most of the things which are taught in EE are related to the phenomenon you can see around you. But the finer details will not come to you until you learn by "hand" and not merely by "eyes". If you are doing Electromagnetic theory, try working out the theory, think about the implications of it, how the theory will influence things if, say, the shape of an object changes, etc. This will create interest within you.
3. A major challenge I faced is that the software used in Electrical Engineering applications and are made available to most Universities are more like demo versions and can't take in a lot of computation. For instance, I couldn't analyze the electric field around a circuit while I switch it on/off. I assume things should have changed, but this software are not widely used, which makes life a bit more complicated.

I had always said and believed, asking "Why?" and "How?" has helped me learn more than "What?", "When" and "Where?" It was very true in EE.

If you have just started learning EE, patience, things will fall in place. It may seem hard at the beginning, but everything in advanced EE will sound very simple if you learn the fundamentals thoroughly. There is plenty out there which you can do in EE, and it is a fun area to be in. Enjoy it, and you will find it more appealing to your inner sense.

There are a lot of sub-branches in EE, one or the other will definitely be of interest to you once you cross the line learning the fundamentals.

Best paying IT Engineering Jobs

Less. Very less. Unless otherwise, you’re from an IIT or NIT or some reputed universities or private colleges, you can only dream about getting a core job in the first place. Later comes the pay scale. I’m from TN and let me take the scenario there when I completed my engineering in 2015 :
Total no. of Engineering colleges - 500+
No. of colleges with Mechanical Engineering - 350 (approx)
*Average batch size/year - 350 colleges * 60 students per college = 21000
*N:B - The fact that I have mentioned 60 students per college is very much lesser than what actually it is. In my own batch, there were 150 people and my junior batches had 200+ students when I was in my final year.
Now out of these 350 colleges, core engineering companies visit say only the top 50 and they recruit a meager 5–10% of that batch of Mechanical Engineers. Also, in that, all big shot companies like M&M, Ashok Leyland prefer top colleges like NIT/IIT and PSG Tech. So their average requirement of says a 100 is closed.
Now the savior of the remaining qualified engineers is our beloved software giants. TCS, CTS, Infosys, and Wipro. They recruit people like a herd of sheep. They hired 700 people in my very campus in 2015. There we Mechanical people rot with coding for a year or two, get low rating and then we are weeded out.
Now coming to the question on income, I don’t really see a competitive income to IT people or other professionals. You won’t find many onsite opportunities unless you are incorporated in your core engineering. I still remember the day I was hired for the present company, Hinduja Group, my fellow applicants who were recruited went just about to leave the recruitment hall after we all were given instructions without even inquiring what they will earn for the coming months. Such is the situation of Mechanical Engineers. The next day I was treated like a hero in the college for core placements. Seriously..? And people went awe when I said my package. And it was only 3 LPA. May sound hilarious to all hi-fi profile people, but this is the reality. Some of my friends worked for 8k per month as lathe operators until they got a decent break.
Recently when there was a recruitment drive in my office and I was there to check their CAD models. There was this guy’s resume on which he had put his annual income as 60k. Yes, it may roughly turn out to 4.5k per month. He attended the interview and got through, but he was rejected by my company. Reason: He asked for a hike. How much..? 200%, which is 1.8 lakhs as the final sum. The company will earn this money in less than a month on his name, yet he was rejected. This is how we mechanical people earn.
You want to be a Mechanical Engineer. You want the best-paid engineering job. Get into big shot colleges or clear GATE and go to PSUs or write CAT and get into IIMs but not core companies unless they offer you big money or you’re unfortunate and you need money badly. It is as simple as that. And by the way, I forgot to tell you about appraisals, they will be even more frustrating. Either they will make you slog hard and give you pennies or they will make you sit idle and throw even lesser pennies. People will say Mechanical is an evergreen branch, but for god’s sake parents please do realize it's not about being evergreen, it is all about money at the end of the day. Our respected Uber drivers, Flipkart delivery people some of whom don’t have an engineering degrees earn more than your Engineer

The type of engineering can change the salary significantly. Mechanical and Aerospace engineers tend to have similar starting salaries, whereas computer and chemical engineers tend to have noticeably higher salaries, and electrical engineers are maybe somewhere between those. Civil engineers make something similar to ME/AE until they earn their Professional Engineer license (required for many CE jobs) and start making a whole lot more.
The location of work changes the salary significantly due to the different costs of living. For example, someone working in the silicon valley can literally make 3x’s as much as someone in the midwest, but the cost of living is honestly even more than 3x’s as much depending on where exactly you try and stay.
How Much Does An Engineer Make Salary, for a rough number, here are some wide ranges of starting salaries by engineering focus? Note that this is a starting salary, not an average or max.
  • MechE/Aero/Civil: $60k - $90k
  • Electrical Eng: $70k - $100k
  • Computer/ChemE: $80k - $110k
Again, those are extremely rough numbers since the salary changes so much across the nation, but hopefully a start for you.
As one reference point, immediately after graduation, I was offered salaries in the range of $70k - $85k between Midwest and Northeast locations as an entry-level aeronautical engineer.

Anything between 30k-150k$ per year depending on the skill set and level of expertise. For a fresh graduate just of college with an undergraduate degree ~ 30k - 60k$ per year. For a masters degree holder 50k to 120k $ per year or even more depending on your background (university, skill level, projects). For a PhD, I think around 60k- 130k$ per year.
These numbers may vary from company to company. For ex. a Google mechatronics engineer working on their autonomous car would fetch a higher amount. Similarly someone working with NASA will get a handsome amount of money. It all comes back to your skill level and background.
